The Bridges are Calling
Highway 1 (SR-1) is a highway in California that travels a good length of California’s Coast. It offers breathtaking views of some of the most rugged coastline California has to offer. It’s a stark contrast to the Malibu beaches that people usually think of when talking about California beaches. Jug Handle is a small nature reserve that offers some great views of some of this section of the coast.
This section of coastline North of San Francisco is unique in so many ways. There are black sand beaches, redwoods, cliffs, towns, and some of the most remote coastline you will find.

One of the great things about this stretch of highway is its coastal bridge network. Usually I am not impressed with California infrastructure. But the California coast has a few really cool bridges. One of those can be easily viewed from the beach down at Jug Handle.

Jug Handle Trails
There are also a handful of trails to explore. Jug Handle isn’t a huge area, but it doesn’t require a fee to enter. So it’s worth a walk exploring the coastal trails.
